Horseback Riding
in Haleakala Volcano Crater
March 3, 2003

Steve, Steph and Jon went on a horseback ride into the dormant volcano on Haleakala.  The ride began
on the crater rim, at about 10,000 feet elevation.  We then descended 2500 feet to the floor of the crater,
traveling 3.8 miles down the trail.  After lunch at the bottom, we were glad it was the horses, and not us,
who had to do the climbing on the way back up.  It took one and a half to two hours each way.  The scenery
was incredible!
